Upcoming District Water Loss Assessment – July 12–16, 2025
Orchard Mesa Irrigation District (OMID), in partnership with Farmers Conservation Alliance (FCA), will be conducting a water loss assessment in selected segments of Canal 1 and Canal 2 from July 12-16, 2025.
This assessment is part of OMID’s ongoing efforts to improve irrigation efficiency, reduce operational losses, and ensure a reliable water supply for all users. By measuring water losses such as seepage, leakage, evaporation, and operational spills, the District will gain valuable insights into how water moves through the system—and where losses occur.
What to Expect:
- Testing will occur from July 12–16, during high-demand conditions. Turnouts in the test area will be temporarily shut off for approximately 12 hours to allow for accurate measurement of canal losses. Affected irrigators will be notified in advance via mailer.
Why This Matters:
This assessment will help identify areas for improvement, support funding applications, and inform future modernization projects. Understanding water loss is critical to maintaining an efficient and resilient delivery system.
